Bishop's eye
for solo piano (2016)

While composing this short, energetic solo work for piano, I was in the progress of reading a book about the Plantagenet dynasty of medieval England in the 12th through 14th centuries. Located on the south side of Lincoln Cathedral in the East Midlands of England, the Bishop's Eye is a remarkable rose window constructed during the reign of the Plantagenets. As I conceived of this piece, I likened the rays of colored sunlight filtering through the glass to interlocking triads of different roots and qualities, creating the effect of an aural kaleidoscope.
